Better by Mackenzie First

MACKENZIE FIRST opened the Ralph Leroy's Collection spring/summer 2012 "FIRE" with "Better" which was presented Worldwide in the Capital of Canada.

Take a look and yes they are wearing Ralph Leroy in that video...
Get better and feel better.

Mackenzie First is a Canadian alternative; pop, post-punk band formed in 2001 by singer/songwriter Dave Black & guitarist songwriter Domenic Berardi in Montreal, Canada. Black & Berardi worked for the next few years on the bands development and songwriting. After countless demos and club dates to fine-tune the material, the band was starting to show results. The music soon became an outlet allowing them to air their views on the social landscape and its changing tides. The sound was also taking on a new shape. Experimental pop textures were infused with timely subject matter, (always with a tongue-in-cheek delivery) yielded refreshing results, such as their first single and video BETTER on their debut album. Mackenzie First’s music had now evolved into their very own distinct brand.
It’s not often that a band makes it past the harsh reality of the industry and keeps its, course creating the music it believes in. Mackenzie First has proven to be the exception. They have stayed on track and continued to write songs that inspire. Since their inception in 2001, they have remained strong and faced adversity with a smile. Their strong morals and humoristic approach to world events brings about a refreshing take on music.

“Music has a way to move people. It has the capabilities to change the world. It becomes removed from the creator and it turns into the listeners’ escape.” said Dave Black, Mackenzie First’s front man and founder.

Mackenzie First has always used their music to approach situations that affect people, never to the detriment of a great melody, songs like THINK, BETTER and REAL WORLD; Black and Berardi here touch on strong, some times controversial issues while staying within a well crafted pop context.

Mackenzie First’s album (October 2011) will be released around the world using Universal Music Group’s distributed label TAB records, founded by renowned producer Tino Izzo and Bob Telaro. The band will be playing local shows and showcases in Canada, while they prepare to embark on a national tour in the spring of 2012 and a US promotional tour summer/fall 2011.

English version

David Black
How did you become "Mackenzie First" ?

We all grew up together in Laval. We had several different bands and band names along the way and Mackenzie First was an inside joke about Dom and Dave flunking Grade 10 history class. (Thinking that Mackenzie was the first prime minister of Canada) when we got onto the 123 punk album in 2002 the name just kinda stuck. People knew who we were and more importantly we felt that it actually had a special meaning to us.

How did you meet Ralph Leroy?

We met Ralph threw a mutual friend of our label (Tab Records).

Can you describe what it was like to work with Ralph?

We really liked working with Ralph. He was direct and to the point. Ralph understood the dynamics of the band and our individual personalities very well and it came across in his choices of clothing for us. From then on in he had our complete trust. He's also a very honest man who doesn't hide his feelings or tip toe around the truth which was very refreshing and he was not afraid to tell us the truth where are style and our best interest was concerned. If something we were doing looked bad we were able to count on his utmost honest opinion. In this buisness that's the kind of person you really need.

Domenic Berardi
How would you describe Mackenzie First's style? (Wardrobe and music genre)

Were very colorful characters and our wardrobe and music style definitely have to represent that.  Ralph understood us right away and was able to help us bring this out I would say musically were a cross between The B52`s and Aerosmith, clean pop sound with funky overtones and a rock edge.  Wardrobe wise were a mix of Britt pop fashion and 70's vintage.

What are your thoughts on the Fall/Winter 2011 Collection?

From what we have seen we think it looks AMAZING and we're very excited to see more at Fashion week!

Zook Zuccaro
Do you have favorite pieces you would like to wear from the Collection?

Dave:  The pieces Ralph gave us for the music video suited my personality so well I honestly don't think I've ever felt more "In my skin" The Scotch checkered Jacket was Super cool and Very something I'd wear but i think the red leather jacket would have to be my favorite. I'm just a sucker for the classics!

Dom: I love the bright colored suit jackets. I used to wear a lot of Black/Grey and now I'm really into the vintage colorful styled jackets.
Ever since I saw myself wearing the bright colors in the video I'm never going back to those boring colors again!

What do you want your listeners to retain from your album?

To have a positive outlook on some of life's toughest issues, One thing were all about is finding the light in a soar subject. You don't always get to choose your path in life but you can choose how your going to walk down it. With the right attitude and a little Rock & Roll magic you can always turn everything around!

When our singer Dave was 9 his older sister Jillian tragically passed away from cystic fibrosis. For years he was depressed and thought nothing but why me. It was only when he realized that all the biggest and greatest philanthropists in the world have also suffered great losses. That he began to realize there was another way. With great loss comes great understanding. It’s all relative.

Our new single Better is about just that! Everyone in our circle is positive and works hard! We may not have been born with every advantage in this world but we'll keep spreading are positive message and trying to good by people. Not for some crazy religious purpose but just because it’s the right thing to do and if we win we all win.

Mario Telaro
Where do you see your music in 5 years?

All over the world!
I expect to be on a world tour as soon as our new single is released!
Check it out Here : “BETTER”

Can we expect Mackenzie First and Ralph Leroy to collaborate on future projects?

Absolutely! Ralph did stellar job and we look forward to working with him again on all our big projects!

On a date with "Sergio"

You're being led by a kind stranger up a flight of stairs. It's a breezy fall night and the wind has just blown you a whiff of mouthwatering freshly baked croissant. The sound from a corked wine has popped open, a violin begins to play softly, beautifully. You pause and hope you've reached your mysterious destination. The blindfold is removed and there you are standing before your beau with his hair pushed back (just the way you always told him you like it) on top of the Eiffel Tower overlooking the city of love. A vision pulled from your dreams fitted in a milk chocolate, two-button suede blazer by Ralph Leroy. Thank goodness Prince Charming has style.

Sergio isn't the name of your Prince Charming. He is the reason your ex-boy is still calling you because he got a glimpse of your upgrade. Sergio is the exquisitely tailored jacket in Ralph Leroy's Fall 2011 Air Element Collection. This jacket dresses up your pair of jeans so keep it as your go-to when undecided about what will impress her. It's European cut will set you apart from the crowd of black blazers and Lucky7 deep V-neck shirts. We see Jamie Foxx rocking his Carrera sunglasses with the Sergio and a black pant looking oh so smooth! Johnny Depp known to be a little more of a hippie with his style of dress, works this jacket with his disheveled hair, a printed scarf and leaves the jacket open giving us a glimpse at the green pea silk lining.

The Sergio jacket is alluring stylish and is no less of an "It" item this Fall. With suede and silk living in harmony together, it creates luxury in a man's wardrobe. If there is one piece to invest in this fall, it is the Sergio. Turning your frog in to a Prince Charming by the closure of two magical buttons.

Available in several colors except black.
Sizes 36 to 50
and is sensibly priced at: 875.00$

Yes, this is "Michelle"

As I write this blog entry, my eyes are tempted to watch the random Monday night movie playing in my living room. "Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle" is one of those empowering girl movies that when after the credits finish rolling, you move a little differently in your daily activities. Simply climbing up the stairs turns in to lunging. Taking out the garbage involves some karate moves and cooking dinner becomes a circus performance. A movie where you truly believe you can take on the world. If film can make you feel this invincible, why not the “Michelle” coat by Ralph Leroy?

Inspired by the wife of the 44th incumbent President of the United States, Michelle Obama is truly the First Lady of fashion. She is able to take risks which is uncommon for ladies in the White House and distinguishes herself beyond a somber pant and jacket. Not only is she always optimistically chic, a wonderful Mother and supportive wife, she has begun a program to put an end against the American Plague of childhood obesity. Talk about a productive day! It is no wonder the "Michelle" coat from Ralph Leroy's Fall/Winter 2011 collection is properly named. It is for the woman-er, lady on the move who holds a full agenda every day. She has no need to stop and smell the roses when she is the one having them specially flown in from the English Gardens for her Fall Social the upcoming weekend. The "Michelle" wool coat will keep you warm without a doubt! It's interior is lined in a gorgeous silk and will have you feeling elegant all day long.

Michelle Obama is well on her way to leaving a stylish legacy on par with other White House arbiters such as Jacqueline Kennedy. It is no coincidence two First Lady's have been mentioned in representing Ralph Leroy's Fall/Winter 2011 collection. These ladies are powerful and have not been called iconic for just any reason. The "Michelle" coat will have you feeling strong and reminiscent of all the accomplishments and footprints you will leave in history. However, even if by day you are fighting bad guys because Charlie says so and by night you are attending a cocktail party in Old Montreal, your Michelle coat will be most ideal.

After all, you don't need to be a First Lady to feel like a lady.

Ralph Leroy’s party at “La Porte Rouge” by Lipstick

As team Leroy was anxiously getting ready for the party at "La Porte Rouge" in honor of Ralph Leroy, we were conversing about how deserving Ralph was of such a thoughtful honor. The ladies were adorned with Kofi Collection masterpieces and Ralph without fail did not disappoint. He sported the perfect contrast of steel blue shirt with a winter green blazer and olive wool pants.

As we enter the room, we were greeted by the evermore sexy Patrick de Grâce, followed by Moon One television crew. (By the way, the crew followed Ralph’s every move all night long!) Everyone went nuts when Ralph was spotted. The VIP section couches covered with red velvet was reserved only for Ralph Leroy and his special guests. Patrick de Grâce set the night in motion with a round of Vodka shots. Then we danced to DJ Frigid hot mixes. Patrick, who threw the party in Ralph’s honor, opened the bar to team Leroy! We all had our glasses full with great cocktails but Ralph didn’t know what he wanted. The bartender promised to make him a drink that will knock his socks off. Boy, did he deliver! He concocted what he called the “Loverbird”. It’s a Martini with blueberry and other fruit juices that I can’t divulge. Before you know it, we were all having Loverbirds!

At one point of the night, Ralph was asked to say a few words. True to his charismatic self, he wowed the crowd in just a few simple sentences. “Are you having a good time?” He said. “Thank you everyone for coming. This was long overdue. But for those of you who are still talking about my kidnapping, well get over it! It made me the person that I am today. Now let’s have a party! And remember, that the NY’s Appollo theater makes superstars but tonight, La Porte Rouge and the Lipstick crew is hosting superstars; and we are all superstars tonight!” We all got a tad emotional but it’s exactly what needed to be said; since outpouring support has been flooding in from sall over the globe since Ralph’s interview with Nancy Roc of Metropolis.

The night continued with Ralph giving a few interviews. Team Leroy did a few interviews as well. Then we closed the night with Ralph on top of the bar giving the crowd -- his crowd -- his best rendition of Michael Jackson's famous moves.
